Youth Mentor - Identified roles

Salary: $57,532 - $64,308 per annum

Our Client is currently looking for Youth Mentors to help reconnect young Aboriginal people to their culture and prepare them with essential life skills for after life in Out of Home Care. The aim is to support our young people to establish belonging, discover purpose and empower positive choices.
This role will involve;
  • Mentoring support
  • Community engagement and program promotion
  • Working with young people
  • Organisational participation
  • Facilitating workshops for children and young people
Key responsibilities include:
  • Mentor young people, both one-on-one and in and group sessions
  • Establish, monitor, and support the achievement of goals for young people
  • Coordinate and facilitate recurring weekly meetings for young people
  • Develop, coordinate, facilitate and attend group sessions for young people
  • Complete intake process for young people via referral pathways
  • Provide timely and accurate advice and information on our client's programs
  • Monitor the progress of our young people through face to face and non-face to face contact
  • Capture regular casenotes on your young person interaction
  • Build strong relationships with young people, support their emotional wellbeing, cultural identity, and connection with community
  • Provide age-appropriate advice and guidance to young people regarding health and wellbeing, education, life skills and work-readiness
  • Build and maintain links with young people’s community networks, including making connections with family
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our stakeholders including Department of Community and Justice, Juvenile Justice, Koori Court, employment pathway partners, program delivery partners and volunteer network

We are looking for candidates with :

A great energy and drive in empowering young people ages 5-19 years old to establish a belonging and a purpose in themselves.

The requirements for this role include;
  • To be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement of this role in accordance with the provisions of Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
  • Proven understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal peoples, their culture and communities
  • A demonstrated understanding of the issues facing Aboriginal communities and young people
  • Relevant qualifications and / or sector experience
  • Demonstrated initiative, ability to work autonomously exercising sound judgement
  • Up to date to Working with Children Check, national police check and first aid
  • A current NSW driver's license
