About the Role
Barnardos are looking for a part-time (28 hours per week) permanent Youth and Family Support Worker for the Youth and Family Support Program based in Cooma, 2630 

The Youth and Family Support Worker will be responsible for;
  • Receiving and following up referrals, engage with young people and/or their families and assess whether the client has low to medium needs, whether the services required are within the scope of the program and the likely duration of services required
  • Providing an appropriate response based on the various activities in the model i.e. Advice and Support, case management, skill focussed groups, counselling and/or parenting programs
  • Working collaboratively with the young person’s family and relevant parties to ensure effective case planning, review processes and family conferencing
  • Coordinating a range of services identified in the case plan so that they are provided in a timely and effective way
  • Reviewing Case Plans every three months
  • Working with the family as a whole, role modelling and assisting to develop parenting skills, one on one work with young people, transport, practical assistance, advocacy, liaison with other groups and agencies both Government and Non-Government, referral and crisis response as required. Facilitation of parenting and young people groups may also be required.
  • Monitor child protection issues, consult and act in accordance with The NSW Children and Young Persons (Care & Protection) Act 1998, 2010 and Barnardos Australia “Reporting of Child Abuse Policy”  
About You
As a Youth and Family Support Workeryou will ideally have;
  • A relevant qualification in community development, youth work, mental health, drug and alcohol, social work, psychology, education, early childhood specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at a minimum certificate 4, diploma or degree level.
  • Current full driver’s license
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated understanding of casework practice including assessment and preparation of case plans
  • Knowledge of child/youth development and parenting
  • Demonstrated experience of working with young people at risk and their families
  • Demonstrated experience of collaborating and working with other agencies to deliver services to young people and/or families
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while still being part of a team

Salary: Base $57,896 to $73,984 (pro rata) per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation.  Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
