Social Worker- Defence

Location: Regional QLD
Area: Townsville & Northern QLD

Salary: $50 - $55 per hour

The position of Social Worker is based in Townsville, where you will provide early interventions services to Defence members and their families who are requiring assistance for a range of issues.  This is a 12 month contract position.
The role:
  • Provide social work services face to face and remotely to members and their families on a short term basis (4-6 sessions per client)
  • Facilitate group programs on a range of topics and to varying audiences 
  • Work within a multidisciplinary environment and community to ensure Defence members and their families needs are met 
  • Direct clients to internal and external service providers where appropriate
  • Work efficiently across a varied case load to ensure that reports are created and submitted in line with Defence policy & procedures
  • Support and work collaboratively with other members of the team, including Social Workers and Family Liaison Officers
  • Adapt to the clients needs and be innovative with providing solutions and resources
  • Work efficiently in a collaborative and supportive team
  • Manage your own case load and collaborate with other team members on cases
  • Work from the office or in community locations in order to deliver group work or 1-1 support to your client
This role would suit a Social Worker who has an interest in Defence and would like to develop further skills knowledge around the challenges of Defence life. This role requires a Social Worker who is enthusiast, innovative and flexible in their interventions because of the variety of clients that the service welcomes.

In order to be considered for this role you will;
  • Have a degree or masters in Social Work  (essential)
  • Able to provide short term counselling and social work support to clients who may be impacted by but not limited to domestic violence, grief and loss, mental health.
  • Have demonstrated intervention and risk assessment skills.
  • Possess excellent communication skills (written and oral) and good report writing skills.
  • Experience of carrying out a variety of assessments including psychosocial and risk assessments
  • Have a learning attitude where you are able to take constructive feedback to improve your social work skills throughout the contract and learn from the wider team
  • Ability to work in a small team and contribute to a positive team culture 
  • Be available for full time hours over 5 days- Monday-Friday
  • Be an Australia Citizen (essential)
  • Have a valid and current QLD driving licence

Please note this is a 12 month contract, with weekly pay and high level of vetting is required. Abrs will guide and support you through this process.
