Family Support Worker

About the Role
Barnardos are looking for a part-time (21 hours per week) permanent Family Support Worker for the Family Support Services based in Warrawong, 2502.

The Family Support Worker will be responsible for;
  • Provide direct family support and casework services to families in their homes.
  • Deliver early intervention, family support and case management services to children, young people and families in accordance with program guidelines, Barnardos policies, procedures and practice guidelines,
  • Co-facilitate the delivery of evidence, culturally and therapeutically informed parenting group work (parenting) programs in partnership with the Family Support Services team.
  • Co-facilitate the Family Circle Playgroup, in partnership with other practitioners.
  • Provide respectful advocacy and targeted referrals, as required and appropriate.
  • Work within an evidence-based practice framework and deliver a service guided by family support principles,
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethos of Safety and Prevention by providing meaningful and demonstrable child centered and family focused information and support.
  • Use trauma informed and strength-based practice, including an understanding of the impact of attachment-based disruption of parent child relationships.
  • Participate in program evaluation, planning and reporting.
  • Participate in learning and development to ensure that practice is informed and aligned with contemporary evidence and models.
  • Participate in Case co-ordination, individual and group supervision.
About You

As a Family Support Workeryou will ideally have;
  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Studies, Psychology or related discipline, or working towards. (Community Services diploma/certificate and relevant experience will be considered)
  • Demonstrated experience in individual and group child and family casework.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience in child & family case management with children and families.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and the impact of childhood trauma on child development, safety and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with, assessing and working with families where there are multiple, complex and intersecting issues.
  • Experience implementing outcome-focused case management plans aimed at supporting children and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and respond to child protection issues including ability to assess and manage risks to ensure the safety of children and their families.
  • Proven ability to actively engage with vulnerable and hard to reach families.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of evidence-informed practice, including group work programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and maintain strong professional relationships within the Child & Family service networks.

Salary: Base $67,268 to $77,592 (pro rata) per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation.  Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
