About the Role
Barnardos are looking for a full-time permanent Family Support Worker for the Targeted Early Intervention Program based in Mudgee, 2850

The Family Support Worker will be responsible for;
  • Provide flexible services in convenient settings including the family home in order to engage client populations who do not usually access services and to build trusting relationship with families/carers;
  • Assist parents/carers to understand their child’s development and build confidence in their parenting skills;
  • Information about and supported referrals to local services – assist families to build connections with appropriate services, community forms of support and informal social networks with other families;
  • Provide some case work support e.g. assessment of need and *supported referrals but not to provide formal counselling.
  • Engage and consult with families and community about needs e.g. type of group work, where and when to hold group activities;
  • Plan and facilitate playgroups at Mudgee, Gulgong and Kandos and/or other locations as agreed, and any other group work identified as a need;
  • Work collaboratively with other early childhood and health services to deliver group work programs;
  • Network with local agencies and services in the community especially early childhood services to build partnerships and work collaboratively
  • Promote the TEI Program within the community e.g. distribute fliers, local media coverage, talk at community forums
About You
As a Family Support Workeryou will ideally have;
  • Tertiary qualification in Health, Social Work, Social Studies, Early Childhood, Welfare or related discipline, or working towards. (Community Services diploma/certificate and relevant experience will be considered)
  • Demonstrated experience in working with vulnerable children and families. 
  • Minimum of 12 months experience in child & family case management with children and families.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and the impact of childhood trauma on child development, safety and wellbeing. 
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with, assessing and working with families where there are multiple, complex and intersecting issues. 
  • Experience implementing outcome-focused case management plans aimed at supporting children and their families. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and respond to child protection issues including ability to assess and manage risks to ensure the safety of children and their families. 
  • Proven ability to actively engage with vulnerable and hard to reach families. 
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of evidence-informed practice, including group work programs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and maintain strong professional relationships within the Child & Family and Aboriginal service networks.

Salary: Base $60,187 to $67,268 per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation.  Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
