Disability Support Workers - (SIL)

Our Client is currently, a leading Disability Services Provider is seeking empathetic, energetic and friendly support workers to work as a Supported Independent Living support worker (SIL) for people with disabilities.

If you have just completed education in disabilities and are new to the sector, returning to the workforce, looking for a change, have caring responsibilities, currently studying or just looking for a flexible role then this is the opportunity for you.

This role will involve;
  • Working with people with disabilities, including those with high to very high support needs and complex behavioural needs, their families and carers.
  • Encourage customers to develop the skills to actively participate in all aspects of life including activities of daily living, personal care, health care, household management and community engagement.
  • Provide physical assistance as required, ensuring your and the customer’s safety. 
  • Assist, support and develop independence in personal care, health and hygiene including dressing, bathing, eating, and toileting.
  • Transfers/hoisting between the toilet, wheelchair, motor vehicle, and bed including physical assistance to participate in activities
  • Administering medication or other medical/special
    procedures where required.
  • Transporting customers in vehicles to various locations or assistance to use public transport.
  • Assisting customers with cooking meals and housekeeping duties.
  • Complete all administrative tasks as required.

  • We are looking for values-based Support Workers with a demonstrated commitment to the Disability Service Standards, evidence of high ethical conduct and an ability to promote the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Commitment to providing an environment free of abuse or harm to vulnerable people.
  • Ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster.
  • Physically fit Ability to undertake required duties. Supporting our customers requires a lot of physical work. There is lifting, bending, kneeling, stretching, carrying and lots of recreational activities. It is important that you are capable of doing these tasks on a regular basis.
  • Ability to remain calm in a challenging situation: Most customers are very warm and friendly people. However, from time to time you may experience some challenging behaviours so it is important you can remain calm and in control in these situations.
  • Great customer service skills: We want to ensure you
    know how to meet our customer’s needs to help them build capacity and achieve their goals.
    • Good communication skills: You need to be able to tailor your communication skills to suit the customer. You need to be able to
    communicate effectively to understand what they need from you. It is important that you can carry on a conversation with our customers, their families and carers. They love to have a chat!
The requirements for this role include;
  • Relevant qualifications and/or previous experience supporting customers with disabilities.
  • You must have a Cert III in Disability, Social Work, Education, Leisure and Recreation or related be a Nursing student in your 4th Semester  OR willingness to obtain a cert III. If you don’t have these qualifications, but you have experience in the disability sector and you’re willing to get these qualifications, still apply!
  • Valid Australian Driver's License
  • Current first-aid certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Be fully vaccinated (including Booster)
  • Willingness to complete an NDIS Workers Clearance and Working With Children Check
