The Organisation
An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos ACT Together, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities.  Barnardos Australia builds relationships between children, young people, their families and the community. They advocate for children and young people and contribute to community knowledge about their issue.

The Role
Two full time permanent Contact Workers are required for the Contact, Transport and Support Program, based at Barnardos ACT Together in Bruce and Downer, Canberra, ACT.

The Contact Worker provides supports to children and families and facilitates contact between children and their birth family. The Barnardos Contact, Transport and Support Program provides quality services to children and families using staff who are trained in behaviour management strategies, supervision of families and additional supports to children and their families. 

Hours of work will be 35 hours per week spread over a 4 day rotating roster (between Monday – Friday from 7.30am – 5.15pm)

The Candidate
The successful Contact Workers will have:
  • Qualifications in Community Welfare, Mental Health, Early Childhood, Childcare or related qualification and/or relevant experience in the field
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to prepare reports
  • Working knowledge of child development and the impacts of trauma
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development and the implications of abuse and trauma
  • Computer skills in a Windows environment and use of Microsoft Word and Outlook and other relevant software applications
  • Working knowledge of social, economic, health and cultural factors affecting client and family situations
  • Demonstrated experience in managing challenging behaviours when working with children
  • Experience in supporting parents to care for children and build strong relationships

Additional information
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance, current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check. 
You will also need a valid driver’s license and be available to work a rotating roster, minimum 4 days per week

$64, 350 - $71, 921 base (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super. Motor vehicle packaging optional.
