About the Role
Barnardos are looking for a full-time permanent Community Development Officer for the Youth Homelessness Program based in Downer, 2602 

The Community Development Officer will be responsible for;
  • Research and identify appropriate partnerships that lead to long term sustainable partnerships.
  • Engage the community in meaningful dialogue, including through social media, to achieve optimal community outcomes.
  • Facilitate and assist development through partnerships to develop viable project plans for new activities, programs and events, as identified in the social plan. Initiatives can include people from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Background (CALD), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, people with disabilities, young people, families and children.
  • Develop and scope viable programs with other community-based groups that reflect community assets and priorities.
  • Develop and deliver activities in the youth homelessness programs community facilities for young people supported by the service.
  • Prepare relevant reports regarding new activities and events.
  • Be responsible to facilitate/lead the project to ensure an efficient implementation is achieved.
  • Prepare Event Management Plans that includes, risk management, a communication strategy, event checklist and roles and responsibilities.
  • Effectively coordinate by clearly communicating with all stakeholders. 
  • Ensure appropriate consultation and participation and feedback to the community in the development of policies and strategies related to community initiatives. 
  • Contribute to social planning and management plan development.
  • Promote the programs services and the Agency throughout the region. Support the development and delivery of living skills and learning programs for residents.
About You
As a Community Development Officer, you will ideally have;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in the Community Development, Social Sciences, Social Work, Youth Work
  • Significant proven experience working with community groups and organisations.
  • An understanding of community development models especially asset based community development (ABCD).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly developed analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level computer literacy.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, dependent on work requirements.

Salary: Base $67,268 to $77,592 per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation.  Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
