About the Role
Barnardos are looking for a part-time (21 hours / 3 days per week) permanent Case Worker for the Reconnect Program based in Wellington 2820.
The location for this role can be negotiated 

The Case Worker will be responsible for;
  • Provide appropriate support to young people and their families – this may include informal counselling, mediation, providing information, referral to other services, practical support, group work etc;
  • Accept appropriate referrals to the Reconnect Program in accordance with program objectives and service specifications;
  • Establish direct links with young people who are either living at home or who recently left home and their families;
  • Support the young person to identify and address the issues related to their leaving home (which may include working collaboratively with other agencies to address education, training, employment, social and other issues);
  • Assess and meet the individual needs of young people through the development, implementation and review of client case plans;
  • Respond to client needs such as temporary accommodation, family support, health, education and training;
  • Attend case conferences relevant to your case work.
  • Engage and consult with families and community about needs (for example the type of group work, where and when to hold group activities);
  • Plan and facilitate a program of support groups for young people eg independent living skills;
  • Plan, facilitate and evaluate parenting programs in accordance with client need and training/organisational requirements;
About You
As a Case Worker, you will ideally have;
  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, community services, welfare or related fields;
  • Demonstrated and verifiable experience working with young people and their families
  • An understanding of rural and regional communities
  • An ability to relate warmly and respectfully with young people and their parents/carers who may be from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and review individual case plans;
  • Organisational and facilitation skills to manage group work programs;
  • Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations;
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise case load tasks appropriately;
  • Experience and competence in record keeping including electronic data collection;
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, Duty of Care Principles and Child Protection Legislation;
  • An understanding of child protection issues and vulnerabilities such as effects of domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health issues and social isolation;

Salary: Base $67,268 to $77,592 (pro rata) per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation.  Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
