About the Role
Barnardos are looking for a full-time permanent Aboriginal Cultural Care Specialist for the Aboriginal Cultural Unit (ACU). The location for this role is negotiable, noting travel to Barnardos Head Office and sites across NSW and ACT as required.  Reporting to the Manager – ACU, the Aboriginal Cultural Care Specialist will be responsible for;
  • Assisting Barnardos in building the cultural safety of our programs across OOHC and Safety and prevention in both NSW and ACT
  • Ensuring Barnardos meet legislative, contractual and accreditation requirements to ensure Aboriginal children and young people in Barnardos’ care have a high quality and meaningful cultural care plan
About You
This position is Aboriginal identified. To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the role be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
To be successful in the Aboriginal Cultural Care Specialist role, you will ideally have;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with vulnerable children and families at risk of entering the OOHC system or living in care
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle
  • Demonstrated proficient communication and consultation skills (written & verbal)
  • Established problem solving skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in human services and/or experience in areas outlined above
  • Knowledge of and experience in OOHC service delivery, including impact on children of separation from family, community and culture [desirable]
  • Knowledge of and experience in developing cultural support plans [desirable]

Salary: Base $82,500 to $91,000 plus leave loading plus superannuation.  Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
