They advocate for children and young people and contribute to community knowledge about their issue.

The Role
A part-time (21 hours / 3 days) permanent Counsellor is required for the Child Youth and Family Support (CYFS) program based in Auburn, Sydney.
  
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Counsellor will provide counselling and support to children, young people and non-offending parents.
  
The counsellor will provide consultation and supportive intervention to families across program areas of service delivery of Safety and prevention and Out of Home Care services to support internal and external service delivery.

The Candidate
The successful Counsellor will ideally have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Psychology, Social Science, Community Services or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs and concerns of families and children within the Cumberland LGA and Greater Sydney area.
  • Sound knowledge of dynamics of sexual assault, domestic and family violence.
  • 5 years’ experience working with children and young people and their family
  • Experience in engaging with individuals, children, young people and families in counselling.
  • Experience in advocating for children, young people and families who have experienced sexual harm and/or domestic violence.
  • Experience in service delivery to CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

Additional info
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number).
  
You will also need to have a current NSW driver license, ability to participate an on-call roster, providing a 24/7 response to children, young people and families

Salary
$75, 235 - $88 847 base (including FBT packaging)  + Super. Motor Vehicle packaging is optional.
