DFV Specialist Worker

Our Client, a Domestic Violence and Homelessness not for profit organisation are recruiting for a Full Time Female Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker.

The primary purpose of this role is to uphold the Organisation’s Vision by supporting zero tolerance towards violence and homelessness.

Our Clients mission is see an increase the number of families in the Hunter and the Port Stephens area, who are housed, safe, and live free from abuse.

  
This role will involve;

  • Ability to quickly and effectively evaluate the needs of a client who may be in crisis and identify potential referrals that may meet their needs
  • Contacting clients referred to the WDVCAS in a timely manner, conducting a threat assessment to ascertain their current risk status and undertaking safety planning to address a client’s immediate safety needs.
  • Providing relevant information and making warm referrals to a range of service providers to assist clients with their ongoing needs.
  • Attending court on AVO list days and other days as required to provide information, assistance and court advocacy for WDVCAS clients as directed by the WDVCAS Manager.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key WDVCAS partners, including NSW Police Force, local courts, legal representatives and referral agencies in order to facilitate client access to those agencies and services.
The requirements for this role include;

  • Tertiary qualified in Community Services, Social Work, Social Science/Welfare and 2-years experience within casework/management. Minimum Diploma
  • Identify as a woman with a commitment to feminist philosophy, and the principles of social justice and human rights
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution
  • Experience working in specialist domestic violence community organisations or in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support 
  • Be up to date with your COVID 19 Vaccinations
  • Current clearance in relation to Working with Children and relevant    NSW Police Force checks
  • Hold a current NSW Driver’s Licence
